The summer of 2007 will be remembered as one of the wettest summers ever in the UK - and 2008 hasn't been much better!!

Throughout June and July 2007 the vast majority of England got soaked and the worst hit places experienced severe flooding. Several people died, and thousands of people lost electricity and access to clean water while also seeing their homes become inundated by the floods.

In this 2-part lesson the students will:

• Learn a wide range of useful vocabulary for describing flooding.
• Watch 3 online video clips to see the impact the flooding had on various parts of the UK.
• Complete a wide range of activities leading up to writing an informative article on the impact of the floods on the UK.

• Useful introductory activity where students have to categorise a range of businesses alphabetically.
• Students will use Yell.com to search for a variety of car hire companies.
• For the second worksheet the students are given an example scenario with various criteria for a holiday in Newcastle.
• Students must use a specified and easy-to-use car hire website to get a quote for a car for their holiday.
• To finish the students write a note to the friend they are visiting in Newcastle to tell him about the car hire quote they have found.

In this lesson students will get some valuable practice at a CAE style listening activity, while also learning about the history of Valentine's Day.

• In Task 1, Students are given 2 pictures with a question to talk about for 1 minute.

A useful worksheet to develop phrasal verbs while also giving some exam practice.
